Kansas City Lawsuit Filed
The Kansas City Heart of America Golf Club files a lawsuit demanding equal access to municipal golf courses, challenging racial segregation.
1939
Landmark Victory
The lawsuit is won, granting Black golfers access to Kansas City municipal courses, a significant step towards equality in the sport.
1950
Breaking Barriers
Black golfers begin to participate in more regional tournaments, gaining recognition and challenging the status quo.
1961
PGA Tour Opens Doors
The PGA Tour lifts its Caucasian-only clause, allowing Black golfers to compete at the highest levels of the sport.
1975
First Black PGA Winner
Lee Elder becomes the first African American to win a PGA Tour event, marking a historic moment in golf.
2023
Thirty-nine Golf Established
Thirty-nine Golf is founded to continue the legacy of Black golfers, promoting diversity and inclusion in the sport.
